How do you fill a propane tank?

I don't mean,bring it to a convenience store and exchange it or have them do it, I mean what does it take to do it yourself if you wear the right equipment and stuff. My new job starts tomorrow and they will train me how to do it but I want a little knowledge in advance other than safety first.
